New Hampshire woodcock hunting in the snow

My friend Jeff Doyle and I hunted together this weekend.  We hunted over my English setters Ocracoke and Rowdy and his lab Sadie.  Friday's snow melted and the flights were on!  Woodcock were everywhere and we moved 35 birds in three hours.  We were both shooting our 28 gauges, and we had some great dog work with solid points and flushes.  The temperature was about 45 degree with a light-variable wind.  The next day was a totally different story.  A foot and a half of snow fell at night and the birds were all gone when we hunted on Sunday.  We hit several coverts with no luck.  Thank God for Saturday, it took the sting out of Sunday!
