Drawing an elk tag in New Mexico can be a difficult chore. Hunting elk at any age can be another challenge. Walker Schearer, 9, does both.
When Walker is the only one in the family to draw a New Mexico Rifle elk tag the whole family stopped by the Billings, Mont. Cabela's and headed south to hunt with Trophy Ridge Outfitters.
The hunt was physically and mentally challenging but on the last day of a 5-day season Walker gets his chance on a dandy 6-point bull with the CVA Muzzleloaders Scout .243 centerfire rifle. He only needed one opportunity to make it happen. When the bull hit the ground Wyatt is ready and waiting with his Buck Knife.
