The Chippewa Nation has petitioned to stop the Wisconsin wolf hunt on in tribal territories in northern Wisconsin, but the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hoping this soothes their concerns.
The DNR has promised 85 of the 201 wolf hunting permits to the Chippewa Indian tribe.
The wolf hunt is very controversial, but set to take place on October 15. The goal is to reduce the number of wolves in the state from 850 to 350, but some, including the tribe, believe that number is too low. The tribe is not expected to kill any of the 85 wolves that they are allotted. –Brian McClintock
