Man Shooting Owls, Hawks and Too Many Pheasants Forced to Pay $13,000 in South Dakota

Shooting owls is not what we consider upland bird hunting. But one man in Sioux Falls, South Dakota apparently considers them fair game.

Ronald Mittleider of South Dakota is being fined $13,000 for violations including, but not limited to, running a lodge that allowed clients to shoot owls. Mr. Mittleider also hunts for more conventional species, but failed to stay within the rules. He and his clients took more than the bag limit of pheasants regularly in South Dakota. He’ll be paying for his miscalculated math, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. - Rick Bach
