Former Guns & Ammo Editor Arrested for Murder

This is not going to be a shining moment for the hunting and shooting community, no matter how this shakes down.

For about three years, Richard Venola served as editor in chief and current contributing writer of Guns & Ammo, fighting for second amendment rights and giving shooters great advice, but he is now facing second degree murder charges after shooting a friend outside of his house in Golden Valley, Ariz.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, “agency spokeswoman Trish Carter said Venola used a “high-caliber” rifle to shoot his friend in the chest. She said James Patrick O’Neill, 39, of Golden Valley was dead at the scene of the shooting outside Venola’s home in the 4800 block of Mayan Drive.”

According to reports, Venola was intoxicated and admitted to shooting and killing O’Neill.

I have a feeling this is going to get very messy for the shooting and hunting world. –Brian McClintock
