Flying Squirrel Wins Olympic Gold

It’s a three-pete. Gabbi Douglas, who has earned the nickname of Flying Squirrel, has becoming the third American in a row to win the gold in women’s all-around gymnastics.

She finished less than three-tenths above silver medal finisher Viktoria Komova.

Douglas’ nickname is pretty apt for anyone who’s seen her performances. She certainly glides through the air, much like a flying squirrel. And her performance on a balance beam is very similar to a flying squirrel‘s landing onto small tree limbs.

Douglas was the only American to participate in all the events in Team USA’s team gold medal, as well. –Brian McClintock
