When you’re out on a tour of the Florida Everglades, you expect to see some gators and excitement. Well, six tourists got a little more of both than they expected, and a tour guide lost even more.
Wallace Weatherholt, aka Capt. Wally, was out with his group in Everglades National Park operating an outing for Captain Doug’s Everglades Tours, according to the Daily Mail. Capt. Wally decided to break out the marshmallows when a group came upon an alligator, and that was all the incentive the gator needed to eat the hand that fed it.
The boat rushed back to the dock with Capt. Wally unconscious and his hand in an alligator‘s stomach. Amazingly, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers were able to locate the same gator, euthanize it, and retrieve his hand, but sadly, they could not reattach it. But the bad news doesn’t end there for Capt. Wally. Feeding gators is illegal in Florida, and he is under criminal investigation. –Brian McClintock
