Cogdell, Rhode Fall Short of Olympic Women’s Trap Finals

Kim Rhode and Corey Cogdell have both had pretty busy weeks. Rhode becoming the first person in the world to medal in five straight Olympic games when she won an impressive gold in Women’s Skeet. And Cogdell for gracefully handling terrible attacks and death threats for being a hunter.

Sadly, neither one of them will find the podium at the women’s trap event.

The two Americans finished with the same score, 68, falling just two clays short of getting to a shoot out to get into the finals. Cogdell started off hot with a perfect 25, but slipped in the next two rounds. Rhode started off slow and tried to make it up in the final round with a score of 24. Italian Jessica Rossi is the leader heading into the finals, shooting a perfect 25 in all three rounds.

Cogdell won bronze in the event in 2008. Rhode became the first woman to every compete in all the shotgun disciplins in Olympic history.

Congrats to both of them, and hopefully we’ll see them both in 2016 in Rio. –Brian McClintock
