The first wolf season in Montana has come to a close, and hunters tagged 75 percent of the wolf quota in the Big Sky State.
In all, 166 wolves were harvested during the season, which ended on February 15. The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks extended the season, scheduled to end on December 31, in order to try to fill the quota of 220. They didn't quite get there, but 45 more wolves were taken in the extended period, according to the release on Outdoor Hub.
The Montana FWP will release their wolf population report in March. –Brian McClintock
