Small game hunters rejoice, scientists believe that there should be a lot of squirrels in the West Virginia woods this fall.
The season opened on Sept. 10 and last through Dec. 31, and thanks to a great amount of mast, the squirrel population is thriving in the Mountain State. The acorns, hickory nuts, and other nuts provide squirrels with the energy they need to thrive through the winter.
According to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, biologists are expecting this to lead to a great season. The added benefit: deer and black beers love the nuts too. –Brian McClintock
