After hunting since the middle of September in Maryland for the trail camera bucks, and not seeing much activity at that location, I turned my attention to bowhunting Pennsylvania, I have been scouting pretty much these past two weeks in an area I hunted last year of the Pa archery season. I found plenty of deer sign, both tree rubs and scrapes. The acorns are plentiful in this area, I managed to sit in the stand on Monday and watched a group of does and fawns feed their way to me just before dark. I figured the buck thats been in the area would be lingering behind, but, he never presented himself. Friday evening was my next sit in the stand and an hour into the evening I noticed movement in the clearcut behind me, and noticed two turkeys heading in my direction, as they got closer I could see they both had beards. They continued their way directly under my stand, and I could hear another turkey calling back in the clearcut. I managed to video them for several minutes until the two that were close ended up going back into the clearcut with the third gobbler. I didn't see any deer afterwards but seeing those gobblers sure did make the evening worth sitting in 40 mph gusty winds. Hopefully with the rut comming into full swing in the next couple of weeks I will be able to connect with a buck.
