May 21st 2011 My son Jarrett spring gobbler huntin…No bird today;(

Well today was unproductive. I took my son Jarrett out for his last spring gobbler hunt for the season. We met up with my dad, and heading back along the mountain. My father sat back about 30 yards from Jarrett and I. I placed the decoy out in front of us about 25 yards, and waited for daylight. Well, daylight came and there we set, no gobbling at all, although we knew those thunder throaters were around, the hens are on nest, as my father flushed one off its nest earlier in the week, it had 10 eggs in it. The morning progressed as Jarrett gave out some putts, but, to avail, we never heard or seen a turkey.
We did watch a few squirrels, and a goofy crow fly around, he got a laugh at that. I figured I would captivate the moment to get some video of him calling, He's eager to learn more calling techniques, as he wants to start competing in calling competitions. I told him we have some work to do if this is what he wants to pursue.
As we decided to head out of the woods, my father and I let Jarrett do the calling the rest of the way out, giving him his glory in his hunt…I'm very impressed with his eagerness to want to pursue the hunting aspects of the outdoors…He's a 3rd generation hunter in the family and my father and I can't wait to see him bag his first turkey, or whitetail…More to come this season.
