‘Tis the season when I start getting emails of all the great whitetails downed near my hunting grounds in central Pennsylvania. I’m still waiting on my brother-in-law to post his update about his 9-pointer that he killed opening morning, so I won’t include that photo. But here are the highlights.

Trapper Pap Snags Huge Red Fox
There are a lot of people who can credit my grandfather, Ned McClintock, with getting them into hunting, fishing, and/or trapping, including my father, brother, and me, and the spry 78-year-old who had bypass surgery last year has a personal trapping best. The man, known lovingly as Trapper Pap by many, found this monster red [...]

Gawker’s Lack of Hunting Knowledge and the Idiocy of Identity Politics
Earlier this week, I ignored calling out popular culture blog, Gawker, on putting a picture up of a brown trout about the story of a human finger found in the belly of a lake trout. It was sloppy photo research on their part, but they got a pass. But vilifying hunting in the guise of playing partisan [...]

Pennsylvania Whitetails on the Trail Cam!
We are just one month away from the opening weekend of archery season in Pennsylvania, and my Dad sent around some hot trail camera pictures of some great whitetail deer. To me, it looks like there are three shooter bucks in here, an 8, a 9, and a 10, though the 8 and 9 might [...]

More Nice Bucks on the Trail Cameras
We’re about two months out, and the emails with great trail cameras photos are coming in from home base in Pennsylvania! This most recent batch has me pretty excited. I think these are two different bucks, but the one head-on image makes it a bit tough to tell. Things I do like to see is [...]

Illinois Man Faces Prison, $200,000 Fines For Transporting Deer Semen into Texas
Raymond Favero, of Braidwood, Illinois, plead guilty on Wednesday, July 11 to acquisition of wildlife in interstate commerce in violation of state law, a federal charge which can carry a prison sentence, all because of some whitetail deer semen. Favery brought enough semen from Texas to impregnate 110 does. He brought the deer, too, which could [...]

Pronghorn Season Still Shut Down in North Dakota
It has been five years since North Dakota had a huntable population of pronghorn, and it looks like the hunters will have another year without a season. According to the Jamestown Sun, North Dakota Big Game Supervisor Bruce Stillings in Dickinson told the Bismarck Tribune that the population estimate has dropped to about 3,600 pronghorn. [...]

Big Buck on the Trail Cam!
Things are shaping up for archery season!! We got a great shot of this 9-point whitetail up at the camp. We’re only about 10 weeks away!

Nice Bucks and Bear on the Trail Camera
Coming home from vacation last weekend, one of my brother-in-laws first acts was to check the trail cameras and show us the results. Looks like we have a few nice whitetail bucks in the area, and a couple bears too!

Washington’s Big Day. Did Sportsmen Get Screwed?
So, there were just a few things happening in our nation’s capital yesterday. While Obamacare might not have a direct impact on the hunting, fishing, and shooting industry, just about everything else did. Between the Attorney General being held in contempt, the House releasing their budgets, and Congress coming together on the Transportation Act, it [...]
